My first entry.

So, I’ve never had a blog before. But, being that it’s the year 2009 and everyone else seems to have one these days, I figured it was about time for me to enter the big ol’ “blogosphere” that all the kids are talking about these days.

This blog will primarily be used to give my thoughts on the Milwaukee Brewers. They’re by far and away my favorite team, based on geographic disposition. Having been born and raised in Wisconsin, America’s Dairyland, I am naturally partial to the Brew Crew. I usually make it to anywhere between 10 and 20 games per season at Miller Park (which is a fantastic stadium, featuring a retractable roof, if you didn’t know). So I would consider myself a fairly die hard fan.
Currently the Brewers sit near the top of the NL Central, and are in the lead in the NL Wild Card race. While it’s too early to start printing playoff tickets (remember 2007?), if you had told me they would be in this position right now, back at the beginning of the season, I would have taken it, and I think most fans would have as well.
It was pretty funny to see some of the reactions amongst Brewers fandom at the start of the year. The team started something like 3-9 (I’m too lazy to look it up right now), and everyone was panicking, declaring the season dead and buried. Well, things can turn around pretty quickly in the sport of baseball.
It’s going to be a long and wild season, but I firmly believe this is a special team we’re seeing. The Brewers have looked more and more like complete hitters on offense, not just one-dimensional big boppers (well, over the last week they’ve looked like they couldn’t hit their way out of a wet paper bag…but hopefully they’re just in a brief slump). The pitching has been solid, and the debut of Trevor Hoffman in a Brewers uniform instantly made the entire bullpen better.
The absence of Rickie Weeks no doubt hurts…but I’m not convinced he would have maintained the production he was showing on offense. It just wasn’t stacking up with the rest of his career so far. Still, it’s time for others to step up (I’m looking at you, Ryan and Prince) and continue to carry things.
Now there’s talk about a possible acquisition of one Jake Peavy. I’ll deal with that in my next entry.
(Phew…so much for my first post. Wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be.)
